A3 = S3

  1. Antonio is now convinced that he knows the reason for Shylock’s insistence on claiming his bond. Finish the quote = He seeks my life, his reason well I know I oft delivered from forfeitures. Many that have at times made moan to me. Therefore he hates me.
  2. Why can the Duke not ‘deny the course of law’ according to Antonio? because if he let him off he could let everybody off[criminals?]
  3. What does Antonio seem resigned to his fate. What two important realizations is this based on? Use lines 8, 21-24, 26-31 to help you. He agrees to Shylock's demands as he cannot escape from him?
  4. Do you think Antonio’s feelings towards Bassanio have changed since the beginning, why? Not quite sure, as I have been away and only has been reading in Act 3 Scene 1. 5.
  5. Finish this quote = Pray God, Bassanio come to see me pay his debt, and then I care not
  6. Shylock refuses to consider the idea of Mercy, but demands Justice. Consider the following ideas:
  • Is mercy the same as forgiveness?1.
  • Is it easier to show mercy or look for revenge?2.
  • Is justice the same as fairness?3.
  • Is true justice possible in this case?4.

  • 1.I think that mercy is a little bit like forgiveness as your asking for someone to either have mercy on you[like to not kill you] compared to forgiveness as you just apologize someone that did you wrong [ I think]
  • 2.Revenge is kinda easier because you feel hatred and bad feelings for someone who did something bad/sad to you, as to mercy its kinda hard to forgive someone as you already have hatred thoughts of his/her
  • 3.it can be as justice is showing righteousness while fairness is being equal [depends on how you look at it]
  • 4. not quite sure as I have skipped a lot of scenes
