Ranger's Apprentice : Book 12 The Royal Ranger

Ranger's Apprentice: The Royal Ranger by Mr John Flanagan | Rakuten Kobo New Zealand
Introduction
In Wananga, our class has been tasked to read a book for a period of time in wananga. We're then given the task of choosing a book that is of our preference and likes. The book that I have acquired is a series book by the author John Flanagan. Prior to my knowledge about the series I have read up until the last book of the series. which is book 12 'The Royal Ranger' It is the final edition of the series and is the starting point of a new whole different series.

So far I have read about the starting chapters of the book up to chapter 3. The beginning starts off with a mysterious and shrouded figure. he comes across a tavern in which he heads inside and starts there. He orders what he wanted and sits down at a table far away from the loud crowd. As he observed the tavern room like an eagle he finally found the purpose of his arrival in this tavern. Finishing what he brought, He went up and walked straight onto the target. A jolly crowd raiser. In which might not have been a crowd raiser. He grabbed the man from the front, lifting him high up the ceiling intimidating the man and the crowd nearby. Everyone stopped to look at the ruckus. The one speaking to this mysterious person was shocked and demanded the reason for this mess The figure muttered a name, which to the man's surprise suddenly gave him terror and fear. The figure finally opened up and revealed himself as Will. He asked the man if he had relevant information about what he is going to ask. He explained that the person he spoke to the man was that of a close friend of his who got caught and killed by the fire. As the man tries to get the guilty look off his face. Now the crowd has caught to the tension and is now curious to see the response of this killer. The man confesses that he was the one who started the fire and is now guilty of what he has done. to be continued

WTS - Write that Sentence

Simple Sentence - simple sentences begin with the subject of the sentence [e.g he, she, it, they. I someones' name, or a place]

Earlier in the day, it was cold but now it was hot.

Very Short Sentence - The very short sentence  IS one of the most powerful sentence styles ever developed. Immediately, it grabs your attention, RULE: fiver words or fewer words.

Life is short

The Power Sentence -  If you find a waffle a bit, try the power sentence. Begin the paragraph with a power sentence with 12 words or fewer. Get straight to the point.

It can either be right or wrong

Red, White, and Blue Sentence - Use a red, white, and blue sentence-style when you have several ideas to convey a topic.

I am short, stout, and has a handle

The Adverb Start Sentence -  Start a sentence with an adverb, as it adds interest and intrigue. Remember the rule: when you start your sentence with an adverb, place a comma after the adverb then write the rest of the sentence

Begin with a preposition - Try starting your sentence with a preposition. Prepositions are little words indicating movement or position.

In 2019, that was the time Covid 19 was introduced to the whole world.

The-ING Start - Try starting a sentence with the -ing form of a verb. The rule: when you have finished  your - ing phrase a comma, then write the rest of the sentence

The -ED Start -  Try starting a sentence with the -ed form of the verb. It makes for a punchy opening to the sentence.

The Semi-colon -  When you have two independent clauses [two mini-sentences] joined by conjunction [ e.g. and, but], you can remove the conjunction and replace it with a semi-colon.

He was worn out: he persevered and went on with his work

The Em-Dash -  The em-dash in English is the long dash. Use the long dash to drop a phrase in a sentence that is at complete odds within the flow of the sentence - way out there- but which adds colors and interest.

The W-Start Sentence - Try beginning a sentence with a W-word. Here are some; Who, while, when, where, what, whereas. The W-start makes writing sound thoughtful and knowledgeable.

What happened yesterday, has got nothing to do with today's problem.

Martin Luther King, who is well known in history for his speeches and the civil rights movement, sadly got assassinated after his speech.

The top 3 Items to bring in my opinion

Being lost in the cold mountains can be quite risky as there are many possibilities that may occur. Applying that I already do have warm clothes and a jacket to keep me warm at the least. Items that are used for navigation and food rations may be also good to be able to survive. The first item I would bring is a device that is able to dial in an emergency call, as there is no signal on the mountains. Since emergency calls do not require a network signal. So that it is accessible for me to call the police or mountain rescue teams. The second item I would bring is a flashlight that has strong brightness or light capability as it would be easier for people to see or spot me. As it would link back to the first item that I need for me to let the group know of where my exact location is. The third item I would bring is some rations and water. Maybe without prior knowledge, some fruits or living beings in the mountains may prove not edible or dangerous. Bringing in good food and water enough to sustain until rescue arrives is essential for me. For there is no telling of when the rescue team may arrive. There may be other factors that would change my lists as I still do not know of the possibilities I may encounter whilst be in the mountains. Other things that could prove potentially dangerous or harmful might come across to me. Such as wild animals and natural hazards. Overall keeping in touch with the people who can help me get back to safety is my most prioritized in my opinion as chances are. There is no knowing what will happen and what will I encounter being lost in the mountains.

Entry : ESOL

In the year 11 ESOL class, we learned a new strategy of reflection. It is a step by step process called 321RIQ that consists of three components.

3 Recalls - 3 things to remember about the lesson such as information you can easily recognize about the topic or text.

2 Insights - 2 New things I have learnt this lesson. New information you have managed to learn and understood the concepts and use of it in the context

1 Question - 1 question about something I do not understand or still want to know about the lesson. Questions of the things you may not know about or still unsure and not clarified.

321RIQ Reflection

So far over the span of a few lessons in year 11 ESOL, we have done a couple of class activities including an activity where we introduce ourselves one to another in a format of a game. As a class, we also wrote a letter to our teacher Miss. Truter about our background and our identity as well as information that she has not known about us. I learnt how to do another process of blogging recalling back the term [321RIQ] and about how the Year 11 ESOL class will be handled throughout the year. A question that I am so curious is about the specific class rules and privileges in the class.
