Example
Quote '' If you wrong us shall we not revenge?''
have you ever felt like taking revenge?
In William Shakespeare's 'The Merchant of Venice' a key moment that shocked the reader was when Antonio agreed to forfeit a pound of flesh to Shylock if he didn't repay his bond. This moment was shocking, outrageous and fascinating, this moment was important to the text as a whole because Shylock and Antonio didn't like each other but still agreed on the bond, Antonio was willing to risk his life for Bassanio, and Shylock did not show mercy in blaming his bond.
In Williams Shakespeare 'The Merchant of Venice' a key moment that shocked the reader was when Antonio agreed to a bond of a pound of flesh if he couldn't pay back to Shylock. this was shocking because Antonio hated Shylock and promised to mistreat him in the future. Antonio was willing to die for Bassanio even though he begged him not to take the risk. Finally, because Shylock had never shown mercy and did not at the trial for theses reasons it is clear that this moment was shocking to the reader.
Basic Body Paragraph x 3
P = Point - The moment when Antonio agreed to the bond was shocking because Shylock and Antonio didn't get along very well that much.
E = Evidence/Example= Antonio was a Merchant and Shylock made a living lending people money with interest. While Shylock charged interest, Antonio lent money without interest and scorned Shylock for doing so. He also spat at Shylock and called him ''Cut-throat Dog''
E = Explanation [ how the evidence proves the point]= Therefore the reader is shocked to discover Antonio and Shylock can come to an agreement about money lending. It is also shocking because when Shylock calls Antonio out for the way he treats him, Antonio tells Shylock that he will spit him and call him a dog again. This treatment is not usual between people who make agreements.
L = Link [link back to my key argument] = With treatment like this from Antonio towards Shylock, and a promise to be just as cruel in the future, it is shocking that they both agreed to the bond.
Tips
Shylock seems to look a person who is desperate and at the same time madman as showing in the scenes where he sharpens his knife in the corner in the court which makes him look like somebody who is ready to commit a crime and kill somebody in a blink of an eye = Red
P - time when Shylock almost got his bond was extremely intriguing because Shylock and Antonio are at the point where Shylock is losing patience and just wants to get his bond finished and over with.
E - Because Antonio is a loyal friend to Bassanio and he is willing to even forsake his life for his friend Bassanio. As said before Bassanio already had many debts and lots to pay to Antonio but still as his loyal friend he still lends him money

CL Question 4
The theme for this week is the movie series Home Alone
The movie series ''Home Alone'' is a fascinating and funny comedy film showcasing a kid left behind while his family leaves and goes to places far apart from their houses. This movie taught me to always be wary around strangers I don't know and therefore I should be cautious about this stuff.
How does the text construct a version of reality?
To my point of view I reckon it would be very different as compared to
real life I wouldn't take the task of being left alone in the house so lightly,
As something bad may happen

What genre does this text belong to?

Shylock Character Study 3
Shylock Character Study #3
Many characters hold anti semitic views, but in places Shakespeare lets Shylock speak from the heart and suddenly we see him as a human, not a stereotype.
- In A1S3 when Shylock offers to lend money without interest some argue that he is being kind, do you agree? Maybe. He does asks some else's flesh which it just leads to someones death all though Shylock is willing to give up his ducats for someone desperate.
- In A3S1 Shylock suffers great losses. Look for suggestions of his sorrow, loneliness and feelings for his dead wife. Quote ''The only luck I have is bad luck, Nobody suffers but me, Nobody crying except me''
- In A4S1 when Shylock is sentenced, we again feel pity for him. Why is this an achievement for Shakespeare (consider his audience) Considering back in the time when this Shakespeare people were different and I have no clue on how they portray the people in the comedy but, now a days people can understand and decipher the specific parts of the Shakespeare. What I think about Shylock when he was sentenced was somewhere around the retribution/Clueless thoughts as I just read it like half way through the book [was in vacation]
- The Merchant of Venice is considered a comedy, however the character of Shylock makes it feel more of a tragi-comedy. Do you feel he is portrayed more as a villain or victim. Write a paragraph explaining your thoughts with supporting evidence from the play.
- The way I feel Shylock is being portrayed is more of an villain as he asks for such important stuff like Bassanio's flesh. {he probably sees Bassanio's flesh as something that is frivolous] Although all of the things Shylock has lost like for example his jewels that were from her past-away mother, whilst also losing his daughter. [thought he wants the jewels more than his daughter] Overall I see Shylock as some guy who is obsessed with payments.
- It has been argued that the play should be renamed ‘The Jew of Venice’. Why do you think this is? Would it change your initial view of the play? Would it be a more suitable name? Well I guess how Shylock makes his own character intriguing which makes people read and find out more about his character, but in my view it just stay the same as it states how as the Merchant as it sounds more fitting because of Shylock and Antonio traded something towards each other.

- Portia and Nerissa have the rings. What does this prove to Antonio, Gratiano and each a Bassanio? I think they felt awkward and ashamed. about how they were boasting in the court and how their loved ones/wife were in the event/court.

- Complete this quote to show the effect these arguments have on Antonio? ‘I once did lend my body for his wealth, … I dare be bound again, my soul upon the forfeit that your lord will never more break faith advisedly’ (Black Pg. 199, Blue Pg 111)

Act Four, Scene One- Line Study
- A4S1 Line 70-83 (Black Pg. 151, Blue Pg.87)
- Antonio gives us
- three short images of how useless any attempt by Bassanio
- to save his life will be

- What do they tell us about one of Shakespeare's interests

- experienced anything that relates to Shakespeare but It is a good way of showing the problems and how to get people intrigued.
- Each example is an extreme and impossible, what influence does this have on how you expect the rest of the scene to develop. as the tension rises of how Antonio might lose his life it will get interesting.
- A4S1 Line 90-100 (Black Pg. 88-, Blue Pg.151-152) ,
- Shylock uses vivid comparisons when he wants to make a point.
- What example does he use to illustrate the fact that the pound of flesh is his: ‘tis mine and I will have it’ Of how he owns something and that it should be rightfully his, like just getting straight to the point [not quite sure] Like for example how he explains about his flesh that is just about the same as his ducats/money
- It is much longer comparison than the three used by Antonio
- but do you think it is more striking/effective/convincing?
- It is striking and effective as if you read it and make an imagery of it you can kinda see the picture and may realize what is happening to Antonio and the rest, just from that the excitement, which makes story as it progress more convincing and interesting of the following Lines/Scenes.
Answers are in Blue [this is all based on what I can understand whilst reading the book and my understanding of it]

Dictator Personality
Dictator Personality and Characteristics
Traits/Personality
Strong minded
Warmonger
Madness
Power Hungry
Demanding
Corruption [depending on which dictators that are actually corrupted people]
Personality of a Dictator, I believe that most dictators are people that use force and uses other ways to gain power. From my understanding of reading and watching world war's Dictator [Like Stalin and Hitler] they seem to have the traits of a person who likes to fight and start or be part in Wars. Example Stalin raised in the Soviet ranks because of his communism skills by persuading people about his thoughts. Therefore I mostly think that a Dictator is mostly a Force and Power Hungry person.
