Final Music Reflection

What have you enjoyed about music this year?

I learned the importance of songs used in history and the meanings behind them. I learned how to participate in a group task performance of composing a song.

What has been your favorite task and why?

Just performing music in general. It enables me to express how much I progressed throughout my years of music. I was alright with what music had to offer throughout the year with different performances each in every term.

Did you complete a class performance? How was it?

Yes, it went well and decent could of wish we had more time to put more thought and time to it to improve it.

Is there anything you did not have the opportunity to do/learn?

I wanted to learn more instruments and have some experience with them beforehand.

What would you like your music goal to be in Term 1 2021?

I wish and hope to be able to pass music NCEA next year.

Namazu

 Daniel -

Namazu is the Japanese Deity of earthquakes depicted in Japanese mythology. He is seen as a huge catfish stuck beneath a rock from which he cannot escape from. From a different point of view, this can be depicted as him occurring the earthquakes under the rock or beneath the island of Japan.

Origins
Over time the Japanese archipelago has suffered lots of devastating earthquakes over the years with it having 10% of the world's seismic activity. People in japan made mythology to represent the earthquakes that are happening on their island. they depicted the earthquakes as a catfish named Namazu and that he rattles around his tails making the rock shake off his back. Representing the island of Japan on top of Namazu or the earthquakes.

3 Countries that are prone to Earthquakes

1.China is the country that has the most earthquakes from 1900 to 2016 with 157 earthquakes estimated to have occurred historically, Most of these earthquakes happened in the southwest region of the country, where the terrain is highly mountainous. Luckily for China, some of the least populous provinces, namely Sichuan, Gansu, Qinghai, Xinjiang, Tibet, and Yunnan, are located in this region. The rugged terrain and harsh climate of this region are not beneficial to support high populations. However, due to the poor transportation infrastructure and remote mountainous landscape of the southwest, later on, rescuing and recovery after an earthquake becomes an extremely challenging and risky task.

2. With 113 earthquakes of remarkable magnitude between 1900 and 2016, Indonesia ranks as the world’s second-most prone country to earthquakes. The primary reason for the high frequency of earthquakes in Indonesia is its location on the Ring of Fire.. The majority of the world’s earthquakes happen in the Ring of Fire, which encompasses a shoe-shaped area of about 40,000 square km. The movement of tectonic plates in the area, as well as surface volcanic eruptions, have triggered many earthquakes that have affected Indonesia over the centuries.

3.Iran, a country in the Middle East, is located in an area of high seismic activity. It is the third most earthquake country in the world and has experienced at least 106 earthquakes from 1900 to 2016. The country exists where the Eurasian and Arabian tectonic plates meet. The Zagros Mountains, one of the world’s youngest mountain range, developed in the area due to the reduction of the Arabian place under the Iranian plate.

For the past few weeks of Pe, Our class was tasked with learning and practically doing gymnastics. Gradually being able to do gymnastics in the trampoline, bar swing, and so on. As we progressively learnt how to do the correct skills and techniques to do it. Sedimentary Rocks Origins

Sedimentary rocks are formed from erosion. particles of rocks are then washed into the ocean and slowly over the years lay down on the ocean floor. Accurately, around 100 million years ago, the layers of sedimentary rocks build up to be as tall as a few kilometers thick. The weights of the layers of sediment squash out water and the chemical process that it goes through will then bind or lock both the particles and the sediment to form solidified rocks. At the start sedimentary rocks are normally carried in rivers or land where there used to be water, in which then it gets buried then the process of naturally creation of sedimentary rocks begins.

Music Performance

 Whewwwwww

What did you perform?

In the performance. My role is to be the rhythm guitarist. Whilst Brielle was the lead piano. Subhnesh and Ace were back up ukulele. Rojan was the bassist. For our performance, we decided to do a song that all of us were familiar with. The song ''Let it be'' by The Beatles.

How did the performance go?

The Performance on a whole was pretty decent and fluent. Just in the later half, our pianist panicked for a bit in the end. Since a lot of us were still quite unfamiliar with our instruments we somehow managed to do our own little version of the song.

What was challenging about this task?

Personally, it wasn't that hard as long as the motivation and the attitude to adapt and do new improvements were present it would go smoothly. Somedays on practice we just didn't feel like learning our parts probably due to boredom.

What did you enjoy about the task?

The task was simple and straight forward. we just needed about more time to completely master our parts so that it could go smoother.

Song analysis

This is America-  by Childish Gambino. The song introduces the wider issue of gun violence in the United States, the high rate of mass shootings in the US, along with other social issues that are commonly suspected to have been results of historically widespread racism and discrimination experienced by native Americans.

I have a Dream - By Common, The song enforces the historical moment when Martin Luther King. Jr. Made the '' I have a Dream'' Speech to show what the people's crys and movement were about.

Changes - By Tupac. it was originally recorded in 1992 when Shakur was signed to Interscope Records. The rapper re-used many lines from other unreleased songs of his on the recording of “Changes” with plans to create another revised of the song at a later date.

Windracer Experiment : Science

Research and Planning For over 4 periods of science, our class is tasked with creating a sail for our wind cart or wind racer for the test on Friday. In my group, we decided to do a trapezium shape for our sail, But we also went and thought about adding three possible layers of triangle-ish shaped sails to see if it has effects. We decided to tape sticks to the paper to see if it does anything.

This may be similar to what we plan on making [Inspiration]

Wind Powered Sail

Equipment/Resources

-sticks

-Papers

-Scissors

Testing and Experiments

After doing a few tests about how far our wind-racer can go. We also decided to add some designs to make our own wind-racer for, I guess much more aesthetic and creative elements on it [It was a shark on a newspaper].  On the first run, Our wind-racer managed to be only a few meters apart from the starting line. Seeing as we were not really sufficed with our results we decided to add more components to our wind-racer. We added another layer of newspaper to see if it will enhance our creation.

Final test and Evaluation

By adding a new layer of newspaper to our sails. It somehow covered more distance than our first trial with our previous one sail. If allowed to do so again, we would have added a much thicker sail or component such as cardboard to make it faster. and we may also add one more layer to see if it will also make a difference. Hopefully, it does go far as currently, we are just judging based on our hypothesis of what could possibly be.

Glory Review : Music Post

Who wrote the song? What is the song called?

The song was composed by 2 artists. Common an American rapper and John legend an American Singer/Writer. The song is titled 'Glory'

GloryGlory (Common and John Legend song) - Wikipedia

What is the song's purpose?

In my own point of view, I see at as a way for the native Americans to uphold their black civil rights movements dating back years ago.  In the current outrageous civil rights movement happening in America, the song relates to justice being served to those who do the innocent and right wrong and the brutality of police sometimes. As well as a historical event in which Martin Luther King Jr. about justice not being achieved.

What did you take from the song?

The needs for us, people on the earth to be equal in all as we share this world as one whole race. Equality among us and that the right things should be done rather than be left out unquestioned.

Music and the Civil Rights

1. How did music affect the Civil Rights Movement? It helped or made people who were being suppressed during that time to express how they feel during the time the movement was happening. People made songs or other ways that can allow them to express their point of view towards the current crisis back then.

2. Why was music such a powerful force? it can allow simple people to express a story or belief in a musical arrangement which is then showed around the world. In which it can affect millions of people varying on how the music or song was supposed to make people feel like.

Career Inquiry

In social studies, we have been researching different careers. we were then to research a career that os of interest to me I chose to be a chef/culinary-related career. I found this interesting because you can make food in different styles and different cuisines around the world.

Alexander Hamilton

What is Hamilton about?
A historical play about what happened in America and its lore around Alexander Hamilton and other important figures who have contributed to creating America.
What is the style of the show? [Music, set, costumes}
-Rap/Hip-hop
-Scottish clothes
Name a character you liked [who and why]
King George, his lines and lyrics were catchy and I guess his part was a bit off because he spitted in his part
Hamilton: Why King George Spits So Much | Screen Rant
What did you think?
it was a roller-coaster of drama and music at the same time. it had some parts that were touching and depressing. The lyrics were actually sensible. Although in my opinion the way it was done or in rap was a bit not to my taste [cringed]
